Tel Aviv greenlights 13 new illegal settlements to fracture occupied West Bank

Israel’s Security Cabinet on 2 July approved the construction of 13 new illegal settlements in the central occupied West Bank, a move that threatens to isolate occupied East Jerusalem from the rest of the Palestinian territories.

Located in the Binyamin region in the central West Bank, the project’s first phase begins in the coming months, with the construction of four to six sites, legalization of several pastoral outposts, and receipt of millions of shekels in state funding for infrastructure.

The Jerusalem Governorate condemned the plan, stating that it creates “new geographical realities on the ground” by seizing strategic hilltops northwest of Jerusalem and west of Ramallah.
