Joe Biden on Tuesday used his bully pulpit to deliver a nakedly political stump speech blaming gun rights and Republicans for the mass shooting in Uvalde, Texas.
Biden insisted the shooting could have been prevented if everyone had just listened to him and banned “assault weapons.”
Excerpts of Biden’s speech via The White House:
As a nation, we have to ask: When in God’s name are we going to stand up to the gun lobby? When in God’s name will we do what we all know in our gut needs to be done?
[…] I am sick and tired of it. We have to act. And don’t tell me we can’t have an impact on this carnage.
I spent my career as a senator and as Vice President working to pass commonsense gun laws. We can’t and won’t prevent every tragedy. But we know they work and have a positive impact. When we passed the assault weapons ban, mass shootings went down. When the law expired, mass shootings tripled.
The idea that an 18-year-old kid can walk into a gun store and buy two assault weapons is just wrong.
What in God’s name do you need an assault weapon for except to kill someone?
[…] Here’s what else I know: Most Americans support commonsense laws — commonsense gun laws.
I just got off my trip from Asia, meeting with Asian leaders, and I learned of this while I was on the aircraft. And what struck me on that 17-hour flight — what struck me was these kinds of mass shootings rarely happen anywhere else in the world.
Why? They have mental health problems. They have domestic disputes in other countries. They have people who are lost. But these kinds of mass shootings never happen with the kind of frequency that they happen in America. Why?
Data from 2016.
Why are we willing to live with this carnage? Why do we keep letting this happen? Where in God’s name is our backbone to have the courage to deal with it and stand up to the lobbies?
It’s time to turn this pain into action.
For every parent, for every citizen in this country, we have to make it clear to every elected official in this country: It’s time to act.
It’s time — for those who obstruct or delay or block the commonsense gun laws, we need to let you know that we will not forget.
We can do so much more. We have to do more.
Nowhere in Biden’s speech did he mention there was an actual perpetrator of this attack with a name and a history.
The blame instead lies on his political opposition and people who support the Second Amendment.
For contrast, here’s who Biden said was responsible for the shooting in Buffalo:
Jill and I bring you this message from deep in our nation’s soul: In America, evil will not win — I promise you. Hate will not prevail. And white supremacy will not have the last word.
For the evil did come to Buffalo, and it’s come to all too many places, manifested in gunmen who massacred innocent people in the name of hateful and perverse ideology rooted in fear and racism.
It’s taken so much. Ten lives cut short in a grocery store, three other wounded — three other wounded by a hate-filled individual who had driven 200 miles from Binghamton — in that range — to carry out a murderous, racist rampage that he would livestream — livestream to the world.
What happened here is simple and straightforward: terrorism. Terrorism. Domestic terrorism. Violence inflicted in the service of hate and a vicious thirst for power that defines one group of people being inherently inferior to any other group.
A hate that through the media and politics, the Internet, has radicalized angry, alienated, lost, and isolated individuals into falsely believing that they will be replaced — that’s the word, “replaced” — by the “other” — by people who don’t look like them and who are therefore, in a perverse ideology that they possess and being fed, lesser beings.
I and all of you reject the lie. I call on all Americans to reject the lie. And I condemn those who spread the lie for power, political gain, and for profit.
Biden did not search for Ramos’ motive, hunt for his ideology, or call for a deep dive into his internet history and views on race.
There was also no search for his criminal history (why did he have a mugshot?). We know from Parkland that Nikolas Cruz was only able to buy a gun legally because he was shielded from the criminal justice system under the “Promise Program” that aimed to fight “systemic racism” by limiting arrests of minority students to stop the “school to prison pipeline.” Could something similar have happened here? It’s possible.
Regardless, Biden doesn’t know and most certainly doesn’t care. Exploiting tragedies for political gain is all he knows and that’s his only concern.
Though Biden pooh-poohed mental health, the fact remains no other countries use as much anti-depressants and illicit drugs as America. Few countries suffer from our level of alienation and broken families. No other countries have Drag Queen Story Hours in ever major city and transgender ideology and critical race theory in nearly every classroom. Mental illness in America is a major problem that’s encouraged from the top down and is only getting worse.
Contrary to Biden’s talking points, mass shootings have been spreading to other countries as the poison from the US empire, Hollywood and American universities spreads throughout the world.
You can’t have a healthy society when your people are swamped in nihilism, drugged out of their minds and intentionally stripped of any national identity and sense of common purpose.
No attempts are being made by our occupiers to remedy any of our social ills, instead every attempt is being made to make our problems even worse.
If Biden wants someone to blame for this shooting other than the perpetrator himself he should look in the mirror.
