There Are More Billionaires Than Ever. And They Keep Getting Richer.

No surprise here: billionaires are getting richer, and their ranks are expanding.

The 18 wealthiest people in the world—with fortunes of at least $50 billion apiece, have a collective net worth of nearly $2 trillion. They represent 16% of all billionaire wealth in the world—four times the amount this elite group held a decade earlier, according to a report released on Wednesday by Altrata, a New York research firm specializing in wealth.

And the pool of billionaires—and their overall wealth—is steadily increasing, too. Their population rose 4% to 3,323 individuals globally in 2023 from a year earlier while their wealth rose 9% to a record $12.1 trillion.
